Cultural Unity
Culture is the way of life of people in a community. It depicts people’s tribes, ethnical background and origin. Traditions, customs, beliefs, languages, art and mode of dressing tell the cultural identity of individual. Unity is an act of working as a single force composed of different people, organization, bodies, states, or nations. Cultural unity is the way people of different cultural background come together to foster a common objective.
According to the African Union Agenda 2063; aspiration 5 of the Agenda envisions:
“An Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, shared values and ethics; this calls for an African cultural renaissance which is pre-eminent and that inculcates the spirit of Pan Africanism; tapping Africa’s rich heritage and culture to ensure that the creative arts are major contributors to Africa’s growth and transformation; and restoring and preserving Africa’s cultural heritage, including its languages”.
The Pan-African Unity Summit Group (PANAUSUG) is strategically committed on behalf of African Union (AU) to propagate the message of “Cultural Unity” across the continent of Africa. Cultural unity finds expression in concepts such as common cultural heritage of humanity. Learning about other country cultures helps to understand different perspectives of African communities.
Cultural diversity facilitate and promoting national and regional cohesion by investing in African culture and heritage as a vehicle for promoting and achieving the national economic and social development goals amongst Africa nations as outlined in Africa’s Agenda 2063.
